Multicultural Festival

Our multicultural celebration was capped off with a big festival in our gym Thursday.  First, we enjoyed reading some of the "heritage projects" the other classes did.  We learned a lot about each other!

Then we went into the gym which was filled with all kinds of activities!
Some of us tried calligraphy

There were games!

...and  crafts

And  FOOD!
This was a sweet Vietnamese dessert

bannock

a delicious black bean dip

What a great celebration!

Making Bannock Bread

This morning Donna came to our classroom to teach us how to make bannock bread.

Ingredients included:  flour, sugar, salt, baking powder...

...and water!  These are all ingredients most of us have in our homes!

Once everything was mixed together, we used our hands and kneaded the dough.

It was sticky dough!  But we put flour on our hands to help with the stickiness!  We patted it and shaped and flattened it a bit.  Then it was ready for the hot oil!

Our room smelled SO, SO good, people from other classes came in to see what we were cooking!
We were so excited to eat our bannock that Ms, Quon forgot to take a picture of the bread before we ATE IT ALL UP!
But, trust us... IT WAS DELICIOUS!

Thank you Donna for teaching us how to make bannock bread!

Our GREAT EXPEDITION!!

Would you believe it if we told you we went on a field trip today that took us to 6 of the 7 continents of the world??!!  Well, it is TRUE!  And we did it all without having to leave our school!

We were lucky enough to try out "cardboard viewers" today.  When we looked into the special viewers we were taken away from our school into lands far away!  We could see things all around us.  We tried to touch them because they looked like they were right in front of us, above us or below us!  It was so real!

We left "North America" (our classroom!) and headed into the waters around the world for an "Ocean Safari".  We went to "Australia" and "Asia" and "South America" and saw dolphins and sharks (YIKES!), humpback whales, turtles, manta rays and a mola mola (the biggest, bony fish in the world!)

Next, we went to "Africa" and saw some elephants.  We learned that baby elephants can't control their trunks very well and needed to move their trunks away so their mom's could feed them!

Our last stop was "Antarctica".  The land was covered in ice and snow.  We saw leopard seals.  Did you know that the leopard seal has no ears?  And the female seal is bigger than the male.  Then, we saw the penguins!  There were so many of them - mothers and fathers and babies!

WOW!  OOOHHH!

Look!  There is a scuba diver!

This is so cool!

What is that down there??

Look!  Turn to your left!  No your right!  Can you see it??

There it is!  Right in front of you!

Here we are "visiting" with the penguins before we head "home"!

This was the BEST virtual field trip ever!!
